Energy Fiji Limited says it was another uncontrolled fire that caused the unplanned power outage in the Sabeto to Nagado area in Nadi yesterday.

It says their teams isolated the incident area and carried out the necessary replacement works.

They were able to replace the broken and burnt power pole last night and power supply was normalised to all the remaining affected customers.

EFL CEO Hasmukh Patel is requesting cane farmers, farmers and residential customers to refrain from unsupervised burning and unnecessary burning of cane fields, bush, rubbish and other items.

He is also asking people to refrain from throwing cigarette butts out in the open as this can ignite uncontrolled fires causing damage to livestock, property and infrastructure.

Patel says in the recent weeks, uncontrolled fires have burnt some EFL power poles resulting in unplanned power outages affecting our customers.
