Another man has been charged in relation to a series of alleged arson cases in Taveuni in July.
He is a 25-year-old farmer from Dreketi Village in Taveuni.
Viliame Gaunavinaka is charged with one count of attempted arson, one count of arson, one count of aggravated burglary and one count of theft.
He was allegedly involved in the attempted burning of the Macuata Muslim League building, burning of Ali’s Fashion Shop and stealing of items worth more than $5,000 from Courts Fiji Limited in Taveuni.
The farmer has been produced in the Taveuni Magistrates Court and bailed with strict conditions.
The matter has been referred to the Labasa High Court and will be called again on the 23rd of September.
19-year-old Sitiveni McComber who is charged for his alleged involvement in the cases of arson in Taveuni has been remanded in custody.
McComber has been charged with one count of attempted arson for allegedly trying to burn the Macuata Muslim League building, one count of arson for allegedly burning Ali’s Fashion Shop and one count of burglary for allegedly stealing items worth more than $5,000 from Courts Fiji Limited in Taveuni.
Police say investigators have recovered $4,000 worth of items.
The case will be called in the Labasa High Court on the 23rd of this month.
