Lautoka lawyer and Fiji Labour Party Candidates Leader, Aman Ravindra-Singh has been found guilty of one count of professional misconduct by the Independent Legal Services Commission.

Singh as a member of the legal profession failed to respond within 14 days to a notice from the Legal Practitioners Unit within the Office of the Chief Registrar which has the responsibility of investigating complaints against members of the legal profession.

In his judgement, Commissioner Dr Thomas Hickie said that Singh does not deny that he failed to respond but alleges that he had a reasonable explanation for such failure.

Singh failed to respond to a complaint lodged by Shailesh Kumar dated 29th October last year as required by the Chief Registrar by a Notice dated 13th April this year.

Commissioner Hickie said when the matter was first before him on 17th September this year, Singh entered a not guilty plea on the basis that he wished to put forward as a defence rather than in mitigation and the matter was set down for a hearing on 29th October this year.

He also said that Singh does not deny that he received that notice.

In his concluding remarks, Commissioner Hickie also suggested to Singh to wear a necktie at his next appearance before the Commission.

He said although the Commission is a tribunal and not bound by the rules of evidence however is not different to appearing before the High Court.

Commissioner Hickie said this will be in all probably his last judgement as the Commissioner.
