The Fiji Roads Authority says that all works on the Kasavu slip is now complete and the road is fully operational.
This was after the large slip at Kasavu/Baulevu Road Junction on Kings Road had taken a great portion of the road due to the heavy rain in December 2016.
FRA Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Moore says they have adopted a new technique in an effort to get Kasavu slip reinstated.
He says this new technique involves reinforcement of the ground and is stable and relatively quick and it is also non‑intrusive as well.
Moore says works included strengthening of the slip face using soil nailing, construction of geo-synthetic retaining wall on micro piles, construction of cement stabilized pavement and associated drainage works.
He says this technique had been introduced in many parts of the world and was commonly used in New Zealand.
Moore said the new and improved road will help reduce traffic congestion, improve journey times and safety for road users and the local community.
