The Ministry of Health and Medical Services says the maternity services at the CWM Hospital remain undisrupted and all services are operating normally.
Fijivillage has reported that CWM Hospital's Labour Ward in the Maternity Unit is closed and delivery services have been temporarily relocated.
When asked by Fijivillage, the Health Ministry had earlier said that there may be fleas in the Labour Ward.
The Ministry now says that contrary to false rumours and irresponsible reporting, there is no outbreak of fleas at CWM.
Fijivillage has reported from yesterday that the Ministry of Health says there is no outbreak of fleas however the Labour Ward services have been relocated because there may be fleas.
Acting Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services Doctor Josefa Koroivueta is today saying that he is greatly concerned and disappointed over some misleading reports in the media, as it can result in the avoidance of proper medical care.
However Doctor Koroivueta has clarified that CWM Hospital has temporarily relocated its labour ward services to the Birthing Unit to accommodate for the cleaning of the delivery rooms, and continued cleaning will require some additional relocation over the course of the next two weeks.
He says contingency plans are in place to ensure that targeted objectives are completed accordingly during the temporary relocation.
A 26‑year‑old man had said that his wife was admitted at the CWM Hospital's Maternity Unit from Thursday and the doctor and nurses have told him that his wife is on a waiting list for delivery.
He says the medical officials have told him that all the deliveries are currently taking place at the Birthing Unit.
They had said that as soon as the delivery room gets free, they will take her and induce her.
The husband was not told any other information and he was told that his wife’s name was the only one on the waiting list since Thursday.
