Good news for current and future students of the Fiji National University as they all will have access to free high‑speed WiFi from next month.
Under the ‘digitalFIJI’ initiative led by Walesi, government is funding Walesi to work with FNU to install high‑speed WiFi across all campuses and centres.
FNU Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel Healey says in an era of expanding digital technology, the study skills of students will be enhanced by using a wireless WiFi connection to the internet.
Healey adds the University has already provided Walesi with the details of the hardware and software required and work on this exciting initiative has commenced.
The high‑speed WiFi project with Walesi commenced last week and projections indicate that FNU campuses will come online in stages starting early next month.
Four key campuses that are being targeted to come online in the first stage include, Nasinu, Derrick in Samabula, Nadi and Natabua.
Meanwhile, $40 million has been allocated in the 2018/2019 National Budget to the ICT sector for increased speed in public Wifi hot spots in Fiji.
This allocation will also allow for the installation of free high speed Wifi hot spots for all Fiji National University campuses in Fiji.
