All Blacks coach Ian Foster had cause to be thankful for the spirited Fijian performance in the 57-23 win on Saturday.
Foster says he was pleased with what had been a stern challenge from a side able to field many players who had experience in European rugby.
Foster says this was a Test match where they actually got tested, so they always learn stuff.
He adds he did not think the All Blacks imposed themselves enough in the first half, and they did not play with confidence as a result.
The All Blacks will face Fiji at 7.05pm Saturday in their second test match.
