Imshad Izrar Ali has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Judge Justice Vinsent Perera for the murder of his partner.

Ali had murdered his 34-year-old partner who was a kindergarten teacher by strangling her in their Howell Road home on 1st November 2009.

While sentencing Ali, Justice Perera stated that Ali was deported from India and was handed over to the authorities in Fiji in December 2016.

He adds that Ali has a wife and a 4-year-old child in India.

Justice Perera said that Ali killed his partner out of anger and jealousy.

Ali has to serve a minimum term of 18 years before a pardon can be considered by the President.
