Detective Inspector Abhay Nand says that Imshad Izrar Ali had said in his caution interview that he killed his partner because of jealousy and her harsh and hurtful words.
Ali is charged with the murder of his 34-year-old partner at their Howell Road home in Suva in 2009.
The deceased who was a kindergarten teacher was allegedly strangled to death inside her home.
In the caution interview which was read in the Suva High Court today, it is stated that Ali and his partner were having an argument over money on the 1st of November 2009.
Nand further read the caution interview statement which stated that while making food on the 1st of November 2009, Ali had asked his partner if he could go to Nadi to which his partner had refused and had told him that she is the owner of the house and she will decide when he goes.
The caution interview further states that Ali got angry and got a iron rod and struck her head after which she sat down and he then struck her head again and she fell to the ground.
Ali in his caution interview had further said that the reason for striking his partner with an iron rod was out of jealousy as a guy used to call his partner.
Nand further read the caution interview which stated that the next day Ali drove off to Nadi and while on his way he broke his partner’s phone and threw it somewhere in Pacific Harbour.
During cross examination defence lawyer Abhay Singh asked Nand if he had written in his statement that Ali was scared and pale to which Nand responded by saying that he did not write that.
The murder trial will continue tomorrow before High Court Judge Justice Vinsent Perera.
