It was a moment to cherish for Rukshana Ali after she graduated with a Diploma in Counselling Programme offered by the University of Fiji under the School of Humanities and Arts Education Department.
Ali says it is a proud moment for her knowing that she is one of the pioneers to graduate with this Diploma.
She acknowledged her family and God for giving her the determination and strength to complete the programme successfully.
She also acknowledged UniFiji for offering such an informative programme that caters to addressing the many drug-related issues in our schools.
UniFiji has developed this program as teachers today need to be aware of it to establish themselves as competent educators.
They say the aim of this program is to prepare counselling practitioners to gain knowledge and competence in working with young people aged 6 to 18 years ethically and effectively.
They say the curriculum was developed in a climate of rising concern for the mental health of young people considering the unprecedented impacts of COVID-19 and subsequent lockdown, since there is a high demand for counsellors in schools.
The curriculum is designed to be flexible to meet the varied needs of different students and the experiences of the practitioners.
