Minister for Women, Children, and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar

Minister for Women, Children, and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar says there is no doubt respect and equality are significant in every relationship and the only way to eliminate gender-based violence in intimate relationships.

In her Mahashivratri message, Akbar says the love between Lord Shiva and his wife, Goddess Parvati is what eternal love truly signifies as it was sacrificial, filled with mutual honour and a balance of power.

Akbar says as we celebrate the love that they shared, we can also reflect on our own personal dynamics with our partners.

She says if the divine powers could have that kind of mutual respect for each other, she cannot see any reason why humans cannot have it.

Mahashivtri is celebrated by Hindus across the world where they fast, pray, and honor Lord Shiva.
