Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Anti-Corruption, Public Enterprise, Communications, Civil Aviation, Tourism, Industry and Trade, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is the new Minister for International Trade.
Sayed-Khaiyum stated that with effect from last Monday, the International and External Trade responsibilities has been transferred from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
He said the move is a prudent step by the Fijian government to ensure that external trade and domestic trade work together to achieve the ultimate goal of development of exports and businesses.
Sayed-Khaiyum said this will ensure the private sector and local businesses including farmers, producers, manufacturers and professional service providers will be able to explore opportunities beyond Fiji, especially in the Pacific region.
He said the Ministry of Industry and Trade together with its new responsibilities of International Trade will now be headed by Shaheen Ali as the Acting Permanent Secretary.
Sayed-Khaiyum said Ali brings with him a wealth of knowledge in the area of International Trade and will work together with all stakeholders in progressing Fiji's economy through improved commerce and trade. Story by: Vijay Narayan
