An Air New Zealand flight from Wellington landed at Sydney Airport last night following reports of a bomb threat on board.
The aircraft – flight NZ247 – left from Wellington with 140 passengers on board.
A large emergency response of 40 emergency crews were on hand at Sydney Airport to meet the plane as it safely landed.
Air New Zealand chief operational integrity and safety officer, captain David Morgan said they were “aware of a security incident on NZ247 last night.
Emergency services assessed the aircraft at the centre of the reported threat, he said.
Air New Zealand has cancelled the aircraft’s return flight to Wellington.
Morgan said: “Air New Zealand apologises for the inconvenience caused to customers on both services.
He says they are working with the local authorities and following standard protocols established for such incidents.
The scare comes less than 24 hours after King Charles III and Queen Camilla touched down at Sydney Airport on their Royal visit.
