Acting Permanent Secretary for Civil Service Parmesh Chand has welcomed the appointment of the former magistrate as the new Solicitor General and highlighted that Ropate Green Lomavatu comes with massive experience within the judiciary.
Lomavatu paid a courtesy call to Chand yesterday.
Chand says he is personally and professionally proud of Lomavatu’s appointment as he had the opportunity of working with him when he was Chand’s Principal Legal Officer in the Ministry of Public Enterprises and Public Sector Reforms.
He says Lomavatu was thoroughly meticulous in his job, always providing Chand with top professional advice on all matters pertaining to accountability and governance of public enterprises.
Lomavatu is a former senior lawyer at the Attorney General’s Office and a former Magistrate.
Chand also says he would like to see young officers go through a career path to achieve positions of leadership.
The appointment was made following a meeting of the Judicial Services Commission.
According to section 116 (5) of the Constitution, the Solicitor General shall be appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission following consultation by the Commission with the Attorney General.
