Around 80 Fijians in Taupo, a small town in the heart of New Zealand's North Island, came together yesterday to celebrate Holi with their family and friends.
In an interview with fijivillage News, Taupo Satsang Ramayan Mandali’s President, Dev Achari says this was the first year they had organised the celebration.

He says there’s only about 100 Fijians living in Taupo.
Achari further says that while Holi is known as the festival of colors, its deeper significance lies in the triumph of good over evil.
He is encouraging people to set aside any differences, come together and celebrate Holi in a way that strengthens the community.
When asked about the differences between celebrating festivals in Fiji and New Zealand, Achari highlighted that Fiji has better facilities for playing traditional instruments, whereas in Taupō, they have to train young people to keep the musical traditions alive.
He adds that they plan to continue celebrating as many festivals as possible in the future to keep the tradition alive.
