About 300 people gathered last night to celebrate the Diwali Utsav with the India Fiji Friendship Forum at the University Of the South Pacific after a lapse of 2 years.
The celebration was in collaboration with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and the High Commission of India Fiji.
The Acting High Commissioner of India to Fiji Saifullah Khan says Diwali is an integral part of India's ancient cultural tradition celebrated with great enthusiasm all across the country.
He says people from all sections of society and nationalities celebrates this festival of lights with harmony.
The celebration included dance performances by the India Fiji Friendship Forum and the students of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, a traditional dress contest by children and adults where they showed their talents followed by food and sweets.
Some of the traditional dances performed at the celebration were Shiv Tandav, Bhangra Dance, Kathak Dance, Bharatnatyam classical dance, Garba dance and Punjabi dance.
