About 200 people were assisted through charity works during the 100th anniversary celebration of Fiji's first Gurudwara in Samabula where they gave clothes to the needy and fed the underprivileged.
People from Canada, Singapore and America who were present for the celebration, business houses, management and members of the Gurudwara donated funds towards the charity work.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad while delivering his message on the last day of celebration says equality, selfless service and community welfare are the core principles of Gurdwaras and religious teachings that empower individuals to lead more meaningful and fulfilling lives.
Professor Prasad says this practice not only addresses basic human needs but also transcends societal divisions, promoting inclusivity and compassion.
He says Fijians must continue working together which will strengthen the bond of the nation and will unite people from different racial backgrounds.
He further says Sikh Gurdwaras hold significant historical importance, they are not merely places of worship but also symbols of Sikh struggles and triumphs and the construction of Gurdwaras reflects the perseverance of the Sikh community.
