All Blacks halfback Aaron Smith says the decision to miss the end of the Rugby Championship will extend his test career with the team.

Smith announced today that he was going to stay in New Zealand for the final three matches of the Rugby Championship, after skipping the tour to support his wife Teagan, who is currently pregnant with their second child.

The veteran of 100 tests put pen to paper on a new deal with NZ Rugby earlier this year, signalling his intention to play on until at least the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

And Smith believes that today's decision will pay dividends come the All Blacks' bid to regain the Webb Ellis Cup in two years' time.

The All Blacks will face Argentina at 10.05pm Saturday while Australia will battle South Africa at 7.05pm Saturday.
