“The shift of ANZ’s Pacific Headquarters to Fiji is a further demonstration of our commitment to the region where we have a long and proud history.”
This said ANZ Chief Executive Officer Mike Smith as ANZ Pacific Headquarters completes a successful transition from Melbourne to Suva, Fiji.
Smith said ANZ has had a presence in the Pacific for over 130 years and currently operates in 12 Pacific nations, employing around 2000 people.
Smith added the recent inclusion of mobile phone banking to the Pacific reflects ANZ’s commitment to financial inclusion in a region where 75% of the population remains unbanked.
ANZ also pioneered offshore Renmibi capability in Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu earlier this year, becoming the first bank in the region to provide corporate and commercial customers with the ability to trade directly in Chinese currency when doing business in China.
Meanwhile, Smith who until next Tuesday is visiting Pacific nations will also be making a stop in Fiji.
