Ratu Filimoni Primary School in Sorokoba, Ba which was one of the schools damaged by Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016 has been officially opened.
Officiating at the opening, Attorney General and Minister for Education Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the school buildings that are being built today are being built to a particular strength.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the new building will have the cyclone certification, blueprints and engineers certificate which will be handed over to the school committee so that if some form of damage happens they will know what type of materials was used and how the structural plan was put together.
He says the Ministry would like to work with school management committees to ensure that school buildings are maintained as many buildings for a number of years have not necessarily been maintained well.

He also says by the end of this week the Ministry will send out forms to the school heads and they will have to tell the Ministry quickly what their needs are in terms of teacher requirements.
The Minister says some schools may not have enough teachers, some schools may require teachers in respective subjects, and he urged head teachers to get the forms filled and has assured that the Ministry will meet requirements in terms of teachers allocation.
