Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had a virtual meeting with the Conference of Parties 26 President-Designate Alok Sharma to discuss Fiji’s participation at the COP26.

Fiji is looking to maximise its involvement in high-level events and urge larger countries to deliver tangible results in the fight against climate change.

The meeting involved discussions on support for the Oceans work program, Blue Bonds, climate finance mobilization and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Sayed-Khaiyum also raised concerns on the ability of some of the Pacific countries to attend the conference in November, to which President-Designate declared his support to assist with logistics, citing the necessity of their participation.

Sharma also extended an invitation to Sayed-Khaiyum to attend the UK Oceans Action Presidency event which will take place during COP26.
