Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum met Fiji's first open heart surgery patient, 54-year-old Parma Sivam from Nadi who underwent a five-hour long surgery.
While there, Sayed-Khaiyum also visited Anant Kumar of Ba who underwent a by-pass surgery, and Ritesh Chand of Vanua Levu who had a tumour removed from his heart.
The cost of these procedures was completely paid for by the Fijian Government to Health Care Fiji.
The arrangement is between the Fijian Government and Health Care Fiji which is a joint venture between FNPF and Aspen Medical of Australia.
FNPF owns 80 percent of Health Care Fiji.
Aspen Medical is also responsible for the management and provision of medical services at the Lautoka and Ba Hospitals which fall under the PPP arrangement.
Lautoka Hospital is also now home to a state of the art computerized tomography scanner including a new mammogram machine that is guaranteed to give the most accurate results for early breast cancer, helping to save, in particular, female lives.
