Minister for Economy and Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the quality of intellectual input, the quality of debate, and the standard of ideas in Parliament has been abysmal for the past week.
Sayed-Khaiyum says it is important for the Fijian people to know that the Opposition has got issues which are either internal or they are simply lacking new ideas.
Sayed-Khaiyum says since the beginning of Parliament on Monday, the Opposition have been very economical with the truth and in some aspects have even lied.
Sayed-Khaiyum says it started off with SODELPA MP, Lynda Tabuya claiming that the Coronavirus is airborne and that the south-east trade winds will blow it across Namosi.
He also says that the manner in which SODELPA MP, Viliame Gavoka misrepresented the issue in Sigatoka was as if there was mining going on in Sigatoka.
Sayed-Khaiyum says everybody knows that only dredging is taking place there and not mining.
Opposition Leader Sitiveni Rabuka says it is disrespectful for Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum to say that the opposition parliamentarians lacked the quality intellectual input to debate in parliament this week.
Rabuka says he would not expect to get this comment from the highest legal officer in the land.
In response to Sayed-Khaiyum claiming that the opposition even lied in parliament this week, Rabuka says lies and truths are subjective now and it depends on the angle people what to take.
Rabuka says it is hard for the opposition to believe Sayed-Khaiyum’s comments about the economy.
When asked about Sayed-Khaiyum saying the opposition misled parliament about the exploration works in the Sigatoka River, Rabuka says whether it is mining or exploration, there has been damage to the environment.
He says damage is damage.
