Attorney General Siromi Turaga has confirmed that an investigation is currently underway into the matter where Correction Officers allegedly assaulted some prisoners at the Suva Remand Centre.
Turaga says he was made aware of the incident through social media and has directed the Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Salote Panapasa to provide a report.
He says the government does not condone such actions as it was his first message to the Correction Officers when he took office and had said that they have to respect the dignity of the prisoners.
The Attorney General highlighted that for the past 16 years, the Correction Services was not led properly, and there were a lot of issues with them.
