Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says there was no bill proposed by the opposition to deal with the continuing concern regarding hard drugs in Fiji as claimed by women’s activist, Virisila Buadromo while Buadromo says the government did not accept the bill as it had come from the opposition in parliament.
While answering a question raised in ABC’s Q&A on what can be done on the rise in the discovery of methamphatamine, cocaine and heroin at our ports of entry, in nightclubs and even on the streets with children as young as 12 and 13 years taking methamphetamine and marijuana, Buadromo says Fiji needs more dialogue and consultation on these issues.
She says only recently there was a national dialogue held by Leadership Fiji involving all stakeholders. Buadromo says more dialogue and action is needed.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the opposition had moved a motion, not a bill, and it was countered very intellectually by the government side.
He says Fiji is working with overseas intelligence forces, and more work continues in this area.
