Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says today is a proud day for Fiji and all women following the appointment of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Unaisi Vuniwaqa as the Deputy Police Commissioner of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.
Qiliho says ACP Vuniwaqa's appointment further solidifies Fiji's foot prints in the United Nations Police, and this is the highest level appointment since Fiji's first involvement with the UN for over 30 years.
Qiliho says previously the highest appointment made with regards to an officer from the Fiji Police Force was for the current Chief Administration Officer and Assistant Commissioner of Police Itendra Nair, who was appointed United Nations Mission in South Sudan Chief of Staff for a period of two years from 2013 to 2015.
He says Vuniwaqa’s appointment is not only good news for their female officers but for all women in Fiji.
