This year with the theme “Awareness Into Action” we have a hashtag #movemore that we want people to take note of and implement into their daily life choices.
Fiji Cancer Society CEO Belinda Chan highlighted this during the 5KM Pink Walk to start PINKtober awareness in action at Albert park earlier this morning.
Chan explains that over the years a lot of awareness has been raised and most people are aware of PINKtober, wearing pink and understanding the deeper meaning, but it’s time for action.
She says its time to encourage people to put all that awareness into action as everyone is responsible for their own lives.
The PINKtober hashtag #movemore is to encourage people to take a 30 minute walk or some form of physical activity daily to get their heart rate up.
The CEO advises that people need to make lifestyle changes, being more physical, avoiding alcohol and tobacco as it will reduce the risk for cancer and other Non-Communicable Diseases.
Meanwhile Litea Bakeitoga who was a participant for the 5km Pink Walk says she is grateful to support Fiji Cancer Society’s initiative fighting cancer since most of us have a family member or friends surviving or some lost to cancer.
The awareness into action 5km Pink Walk today was not only in Suva, but also in Lautoka, Nadi and Labasa.
