910 is now officially the toll-free number for fire emergency and rescue and the calls will directly go to the National Fire Authority control rooms.
People from around the country will now be able to call 910 and report about a fire incident and the call will directly go to the NFA division based from where the call is coming from.
People now no longer need to call 911 to report about a fire incident as through this arrangement, calls did not go directly to NFA.
While launching the 910 Fire Emergency toll-free number today, Minister for Local Government, Premila Kumar says people can use any phone network to make the call.
She says on average in the last five years, the NFA has responded to 5,260 calls per year.
Kumar says the NFA has responded to 3,154 calls for fire and rescue so far this year.
There have been 84 structural fire incidents so far this year.
NFA's CEO Puamau Sowane says too many times people have been confused on what number to call to report about a fire incident and today's launching of the 910 toll free number should bring relief for everyone.
