What is the government doing about pollution in Fiji?
This was the question raised by a 9-year-old boy to the Minister for Tourism Faiyaz Koya at the Speaker’s Debate that focused on the question, Will Fiji’s tourism industry lead to greater economic prosperity for the country as a whole?.
Qusai Jiwanti was the youngest participant to ask a question at the Speaker’s Debate last night.
While responding to his question, Koya says government is trying it’s best to reduce the use of fossil fuels and the amount of pollution it brings.
He says they are also working with other relevant ministries to create awareness on pollution.
Koya says there is also a great interest in Fiji for the development of tourist places that leaves zero carbon footprint.
Meanwhile the Speaker of Parliament Doctor Jiko Luveni says Jiwanti was the youngest participant ever in the Speaker’s Debate which is very good to see that younger people are interested in national issues.
Minister for Tourism Faiyaz Koya, National Federation Party MP Prem Singh, the President of the Fiji Trades Union Congress Daniel Urai, Dawn Gibson a senior Lecturer in Tourism and Hospitality at USP and the CEO of Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association Fantasha Lockington were part of the panel discussion.
