Serious concerns have been raised regarding the safety of children as nine children have been involved in traffic-related accidents this month.
The Director Traffic, Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, says five children have been treated and sent home, while four still remain admitted in the hospital.
SSP Divuana says four children were pedestrians while five were passengers in a vehicle.
He says road safety regarding children is a shared responsibility, from the awareness and education conducted by road safety stakeholders, parents and guardians, to drivers being vigilant to children’s movement and cautious when driving with children.
The Director Traffic adds a number of the accidents involving pedestrians were recorded before and after school, reiterating the need for more vigilance as children’s behaviour is often unpredictable.
