Drugs found in Lau by villagers

89 bars of cocaine have been found so far in the Lau Group, Savusavu, Taveuni and Lomaiviti.

Police say 45 bars were found in Lau, 7 bars in Taveuni, 1 bar in Savusavu and 36 bars in Lomaiviti.

Members of the public are again reminded that an amnesty period is in place until Monday 20th of August to allow those who may have made discoveries of the bars of cocaine to turn the illicit drugs over to Police.

Any person who without lawful authority acquires, supplies possesses, manufactures, cultivates, uses or administers an illicit drug; or engages in any dealings with any other person for the transfer, transport, supply, use, manufacture, offer, sale, import or export of an illicit drug, commits an offence and will be prosecuted under the Illicit Drugs Control Act.

Members of the public are requested to call on the toll free number 3318 529 if they have any information or may have made similar discoveries of cocaine.

Police say no one has been arrested or found to be trying to sell off the drugs based on information received earlier.
