An 88-year-old woman who had received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and had pre-existing medical conditions died at her home on the 14th of last month.
Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr James Fong says they continue to see a concerning trend in COVID-19 cases.
He says the death reported demonstrates the recurring theme that our vulnerable persons need close oversight and early hospital intervention.

Since the last update, we have recorded 141 new cases of which 60 new cases were recorded on 02/08/2022; 59 new cases on 03/08/2022 and 22 new cases in the last 24 hours ending at 8 am this morning.

Dr. Fong says we need to escalate community-wide adoption of COVID safe measures together with immunisation.
He says vaccination combined with COVID safe measures will ensure that the health care load remains manageable.
141 new cases have been recorded where 57 cases are from the Central Division, 71 in the Western Division, and 13 cases in the Northern Division.
There are 228 active cases in Fiji.
