81 children have been given the gift of life by Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital through free heart surgeries.
The Children's Heart Hospital celebrated 2022 World Heart Day today as another 21 children received the new gift of life from the hospital.
They have also done over 2,200 free echocardiograms.
Director of Sai Sanjeevani Children's Heart Hospital Fiji, Dr Krupali Tappoo says in the past 2 weeks, a team of heart surgeons and specialists from the National University Hospital of Singapore gifted free open heart surgeries to the children at the hospital.
Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon Professor Laszlo Kiraly says congenital heart disease is life-threatening, which will take the form of needing surgery or treatment very early on in life or can severely curb the possibilities of a normal quality of life.
Meanwhile, the Children’s Heart Hospital and Sai Prema Foundation Fiji will be hosting South Pacific’s first Pediatric Cardiac Conference in April 2023.
The conference will be attended by surgeons, cardiologists and specialists from the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore, India, Australia and New Zealand.
