8 Police officers who are charged in relation to an alleged assault case in Tavua to take their plea next month

The eight Police officers who are charged in relation to an alleged assault case in Tavua in March this year will take their plea on the 9th next month.

This matter was called today before High Court Judge, Justice Chamath Morais.

The eight police officers are Emosi Tagicakivanua, Vishwam Baran, Alivereti Sukamanu, Nemani Lutumailagi, Viliame Nagatalevu, Samuela Vuci, Jese Marovia and Dinesh Chand.

They are charged with a total of 24 counts of serious criminal offences for their alleged involvement in an assault case of two suspects on 26th March 2020.

The charges consist of assault causing actual bodily harm, act intended to cause grievous bodily harm, aiding and abetting assault causing actual bodily harm, aiding and abetting acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault, giving a false statement on oath, conspiracy to defeat justice, and interference with witnesses.
