The increase in this year’s budget for the Health Ministry by $77.2 million has been attributed to the recruitment of 143 doctors, 200 nurses and other ancillary workers in hospitals around the country for better health services.
With the allocation of $321.2 million in the 2017-2018 budget for the Health Sector, the government plans to boost access for high quality medical services, maintain and construct new health facilities and properly equip all health facilities around the country.
The Health Ministry has allocated $1 million for the construction of a new National Kidney Research Treatment Centre in Suva which will act as a national hub for treatment and prevention of kidney disease.
$500,000 has also been given by the Health Ministry to the ITC Services to improve a supply chain management for medicines.
