Out of 400 female students of DAV Girls College, 74 percent are iTaukei students.
The National President of Arya Pradhinidhi Sabhia of Fiji, Kamlesh Arya said that the school is home for girls from outer islands and those who are not able to get admissions into other schools for not scoring the desired grades.
However he said that the school zoning scheme has increased competition with other secondary schools and it has had a negative impact resulting in decline in numbers at the college.
Meanwhile, the school celebrated its Diamond Jubilee celebrations yesterday where the First Lady Adi Koila Mara Nailatikau acknowledged the school for its diligence and perseverance.
Adi Koila who has been impressed with the schools achievement said that the school has been one of the founding pioneers for educating young women in Fiji.
DAV Girls College was established by Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji in 1952.
