A record $6.95 billion was transacted on Vodafone Fiji’s M-PaiSA platform last year, and the government is trying to ensure that people are using safe practices when using the digital money wallets.
While speaking on fijivillage Straight Talk with Vijay Narayan, Vodafone Fiji’s Head of eCommerce and Digital Financial Services, Shailendra Prasad says $1.6 billion was just from the domestic transfer from people to people.
Prasad also says last month, they brought in about $52.6 million in remittances.
He says in the last 12 months, the total money transferred has gone up to $452 million which contributes to 42 per cent of the total personal remittances that come into the country.
Acting Prime Minister and Chair of the Anti Scam Taskforce, Manoa Kamikamica says the government's aim is to get into the digital pathway and Cabinet has approved the digital strategies for Fiji which involves the digitisation of whole of the Fijian economy.
Kamikamica says the challenge now with the government is how we can be in step with the digitisation increase and how we can create awareness for the public to be aware of convenient and similar ways of transferring money through M-PAiSA.
