Around sixty thousand of the population constitute for squatter settlements in the country.

This is according to the Local Government Ministry’s Housing Director Kolinio Bola as a meeting of all special administrators and CEO’s of town councils from around the country on “city wide squatter upgrading projects” was held in Suva today.

Bola said this is one of the measures the ministry is undertaking to address the issue of squatter settlements as they are working with the Peoples Community Network in upgrading squatters.

Bola said squatter settlements is a major problem in the country as sixty thousand of the population live in over two hundred squatter settlements with majority in the Suva to the Nausori corridor.
