In pursuit of inclusivity and support for persons living with disabilities, the construction of a $596,300 storage facility for the National Council for Persons with Disabilities showed progress in providing a centralised hub for disability service providers.
While speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection, Eseta Nadakuitavuki says this facility will serve as a repository for disaster relief suppliers, encompassing vital resources.
She says these resources include food, water, mobility devices pre-positioning equipment and dignity kits.
Nadakuitavuki says these resources will not only streamline the storage and retrieval process but also enhance the efficiency of disseminating aid to persons with disabilities.
She says as they lay the foundation for this shared storage facility, they also mark a significant achievement for the disability sector.
She expressed her deepest gratitude to the Australian Government for their steadfast support and she says she is optimistic that the collaboration is the beginning of many more impactful initiatives.
The National Council for Persons with Disabilities Executive Director, Lemeki Cagialau says they witnessed the realisation of the shared vision between the Australian Government for their unwavering support to the disability sector.
He says this collaborative effort will bring about positive and transformative change.
The storage facility has a 25-year life cycle.
