It was an emotional yet joyous occasion for the 58 residents of Golden Age Home in Samabula who were hosted to a Christmas Party and dinner last night.
For many at the home, it was a time they yearn to have their families close while others saw it as a time to simply celebrate life
While officiating at the homes’ celebrations, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa led the residents in cheer also highlighting that Christmas is a time to celebrate life and love.
Vuniwaqa also took the time to acknowledge the caregivers at the home for their dedication in creating a loving environment for the elderly.
For Laisa Tubevu who is a resident at the home, the day reminded her of all the song and dance people would break into at her home in Vanuabalavu Lau at this time of the year.
Tubevu says that this Christmas Party has brought back fond memories of her home and family, however she is grateful to have shared the day with other residents she has come to also call her family.
Meanwhile, Vuniwaqa was accompanied to the homes’ celebration by her 2-year-old son, Permanent Secretary Dr Josefa Koroivueta and senior officials of the Ministry making it a day to remember for the residents.
