The 56-year-old driver who allegedly lost control of the vehicle he was driving at Savarekareka in Savusavu and caused the death of a 53-year-old man has been granted bail.
Samuela Talau appeared at the Savusavu Magistrate Court yesterday.
Police Director Traffic, Senior Superintendent of Police SSP Mitieli Divuana says Talau has been charged with a count of Dangerous Driving Occasioning death, one count of Driving a Motor vehicle whilst present in the blood a concentration of alcohol over the prescribed limit and one count of carrying excess passenger.
SSP Divuana says the accused was bailed under the condition not to re-offend, his license was seized, and a bail of $1,000 was granted with surety.
Talau will reappear in court on the 9th of next month for mention.
Talau was allegedly intoxicated while travelling with the 6 passengers towards Nabalebale village from Savusavu Town when the accident happened.
SSP Divuana says all occupants of the vehicle were conveyed to the Savusavu hospital, where they were treated and sent home with minor injuries, but the 53-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival.
