Fifty percent of the traditional itaukei leadership positions are still vacant.
Chairman of the iTaukei Land and Fisheries Commission Ratu Sireli Vananalagi said some of these titles have not been filled due to differences between the chiefly clans.
Vananalagi has urged members of the chiefly clans to hold talks and listen to each other before they make the decision on who is suitable to take up the position.
He highlighted that the new Vunivalu of Bau and the new Tui Nayau are yet to be confirmed.
The Vunivalu title was last held by the late Vunivalu and former Governor General Ratu Sir George Kadavulevu Cakobau who passed away in 1989.
The Tui Lau title has been vacant since the passing away of Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara in 2004.
