The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has issued infringement notices to five traders while two others have been warned after it was found they were not following the retail price set by the Commission.
FCCC conducted 278 inspections of LPG traders around the country following a drop in LPG prices issued by the Commission which came into effect on 15 October 2019.
FCCC CEO, Joel Abraham says failure to comply with the prices set by FCCC is a very serious breach of the FCCC Act 2010 and any trader found doing this will be taken to task by the Commission.
Abraham says they will not tolerate anyone attempting to take advantage of Fijians adding that for many Fijians, LPG is an essential commodity used for cooking and taking advantage of this is both unethical and illegal.
FCCC inspection teams found a 97% compliance level by LPG traders.
Abraham says it’s encouraging to see that most traders have complied with the law and the Commission would like to commend all law-abiding traders for playing their part in protecting Fijian consumers.
He adds FCCC works closely with all Fijian consumers, including traders, to raise awareness and ensure that all parties are compliant and protected when it comes to consumer issues.
