The level of basic emergency obstetric care for mothers and their babies will further improve at 5 sub-divisional hospitals in the country.
This follows today’s donation of FJD$500,000 of reproductive health equipment to the Ministry of Health from the United Nations Population Fund Pacific.
The equipment includes ultrasounds, delivery beds, CTG and ECG machines and other Reproductive Health commodities.
According to CWM’s head obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr James Fong, the equipment donation follows an assessment done in 2009 where it showed that no other hospital in Fiji could adequately provide neo-natal emergency care except for the 3 divisional ones.
The equipment donated today he added will help raise the status of five sub-divisional hospitals which are Levuka, Nausori, Nadi, Ba and Savusavu.
