Five people are in police custody for allegedly trying to prevent police from carrying out their official duties.

A 19-year-old man is in custody at the Ba Police Station for damaging property and resisting arrest.

Police say the drunk man allegedly damaged a louver blade at a Community Post in Ba yesterday and resisted arrest.

They say while resisting arrest, two women aged 26 and 20 allegedly obstructed the police officer from arresting the 19-year-old man.

All three were arrested and are now at the Ba Police Station.

In another matter, a 16-year-old is also in police custody for resisting arrest in Lautoka.

Police say the 16-year-old was drunk at the time of the arrest, allegedly resisted and pushed the police officer to the ground at a service station in Lautoka yesterday.

In yet another incident, a 61-year-old minibus driver is in custody at the Navua Police Station for allegedly bumping a police officer who was conducting stop checks along the Navutulevu Highway along Navua yesterday.

The 42-year-old police officer is now admitted at the CWM Hospital in critical condition while the driver has been arrested and is in custody.

Assistant Commissioner for Police Operations Livai Driu says despite these incidents, the Fiji Police Force will continue to conduct its duties.

He says these people will be taken to task and the young people involved here have spoiled their future.

ACP Driu is calling on everyone to respect the law and allow officers to continue to do their work.

He adds police officers will continue to look after the safety and security of everyone and is calling on everyone for their support.
