Police have arrested a 49-year-old man and is under investigation at the Labasa Police Station after being found in possession of a bag filled with dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
Police chief operations officer ACP Livai Driu says the arrest and seizure of the alleged illicit substances was a result of sharing of information from concerned members of the public, which is encouraging.
ACP Driu says the suspect was stopped outside a hotel along the main street in Labasa and searched, whereby a zip-lock plastic bag was found in his possession containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana and later found in the suspect's vehicle a bag containing several branches of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
In a separate case in the Western Division, two men from Vatuwaqa were charged at the Lautoka Magistrates Court with the unlawful possession of illicit drugs believed to be cocaine and methamphetamine and were later granted bail.
Police say they discovered the illicit drugs through a raid conducted at a Lautoka Motel where the two stayed earlier this week.
ACP Driu has commended the show of support towards the war on drugs.
He says sharing of information is reflective of the collective commitment shown towards safeguarding communities from the devastating consequences of illicit drugs.
