476 people evacuated into 7 evacuation centres

476 people have now been evacuated into seven evacuation centres around the country which include 263 children and 213 adults.

The National Disaster Management Office says that two evacuation centres have opened in the Central Division while five evacuation centres have been opened in the Northern Division.

They says that looking at the evacuation centres, 62 evacuees are currently at Draiba Primary School with two families from Nanuku settlement have moved into Marist Champagnat Institute at Vatuwaqa with the numbers expected to increase from tonight.

NDMO say that 100 adults and 118 children have moved into Navakawau Primary School in Taveuni while 13 adults and 12 children are sheltering at the Navakawau Commmunity Hall.

Salialevu Primary School in Taveuni has been opened to accommodate 54 adults and 56 children, Wairiki Primary School have 19 adults and 19 children while Wairiki Hall has 12 adults and 13 children.

Meanwhile the Fiji Salvation Army in coordination with the National Disaster Management Office has distributed some ration packs to the seven families from Korova settlement that are currently at Draiba Primary School this afternoon.

Director NDMO Anare Leweniqila thanked the Salvation Army for their kind contribution and timely assistance to those who are in need at the evacuation centres.

In other situation reports, the medical clinic at the Korovisilou Health Centre has been temporarily shifted to Ratu Latianara School due to flooding of premises with cleaning in progress as water has receded.

In the Northern Division, the Ministry of Health is trying to establish communication with Cikobia, Korotasere, Navakasiga, Yadua and Kioa health centres.

 The Commissioner Northern has been contacted to seek assistance from the Turaga ni Koro.

In other operational matters, the Ministry of Waterways has activated its standby teams.
