434 Fijians have received certificates after they completed their technical and vocational training.
While speaking at the closing of the Fiji National University’s Technical and Vocational Training, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Jone Usamate says it is the Fijian Government’s vision to establish Fiji as a well-educated and knowledge based society.
Usamate says the primary objective of the project is to train and empower rural communities and villages with basic practical skills and knowledge that are relevant and necessary to their immediate and future needs.
He adds in doing so, it hopes to impart and address the productive use of local natural resources as a means to alleviate rural poverty situations as well as introduce business ideas to encourage entrepreneurship.
Usamate says from 2012 to date, more than 27,000 participants have undertaken this course nationwide with more than 3,000 this year.
