The body of the 4-year-old boy who was swept away by strong currents while trying to cross a creek with a relative in Sakoca on Tuesday night has been found.
Divisional Police Commander Southern Senior Superintendent of Police Wate Vocevoce says a 28-year-old woman found the child’s body floating in the Nasinu River as she was returning from a fishing trip last night.
Officers retrieved the boy's body and he was conveyed to the CWM Hospital mortuary.
Police say the child and a relative were trying to cross the flooded creek from Sakoca to Naivurevure Ni Cagi when he was swept away by strong currents.
They are urging parents and guardians to place greater emphasis on their child's safety, and avoid placing them in situations that would endanger their lives.
Investigations continue.
