4 produced in court for their alleged involvement in $1.3 million land scam

A former iTaukei Land Trust Board Officer, a businessman, his mother and a private consultant who were allegedly involved in a $1.3 million land scam have been granted bail by the Lautoka Magistrates Court.

Former TLTB Estate Officer Compliance and Risk Joseva Muana, Abinesh Kumar, Subbamma and Metuisela Navunisaravi have been jointly charged with 5 counts of Conspiracy to Defraud - Obtaining A Gain, 6 counts of obtaining financial advantage and 4 counts of falsification of documents.

Muana has also been charged with 1 count of abuse of office and 1 count of bribery.

Kumar and Subbamma allegedly sold pieces of land in Sabeto and Nasoso which did not belong to them, and as a result, obtained a financial advantage of $1.3 million from private citizens.

Muana and Kumar allegedly dishonestly falsified TLTB Agreements for Lease with the intention of obtaining a $1.3 million gain.

Muana allegedly processed and approved the application for lease for land without following the relevant procedures in the processing and approval of such application.

He allegedly accepted an advantage of $6,0000 from Subbamma.

The matter has been adjourned to 3rd October.
